Michael Anthony Morton

Michael Anthony Morton, 73 years old, of Kannapolis, went to be with his Lord and Savior on March 16, 2024. Michael was born on March 23, 1950, in Cabarrus County to the late Jesse C. Jr. and Katherine Furr Morton.

Michael was a loving and devoted Husband, Father and Paw Paw. He was a graduate of A.L. Brown High School in 1968. He then attended Elon College, where he played football for two years.  After college, Michael went to work for the North Carolina Highway Patrol, where he retired after 30 years of dedicated service.  He also ran his own business named M&S Lawn Care, which he owned for 20 years, until his retirement.  Michael was an avid sports fan.  He liked to play golf, fish, riding his motorcycles with his friends and traveling with his family.  He was a member of Ebenezer Lutheran Church, the YMCA Fesperman Y’s Men Club, and Allen Graham Masonic Lodge.  He also was a HAM Radio operator and a huge history buff.

Michael is survived by his wife of 52 years, Phyllis Renee Scercy Morton; his son, Mike Morton, Jr. and his wife Alana; his daughter, Jennifer McGuire and her husband Scott; his grandchildren, Trey, Jesse, Katie, Laney and Molly Morton, Madison, Makenzie, Grayson and Easton McGuire; his sister, Becky Morton and his half-brother, Jesse C. Morton, III.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, March 23, 2024, from 12:30pm to 2:00pm at Ebenezer Lutheran Church. with a Celebration of Life to follow at 2:00pm.
