Janice Sharon King Upright passed away on Wednesday April 24, 2024 at her residence. She was born there on August 14, 1942 to the late Lawrence King and Anna Sue Ingram King. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth E. Upright, Sr.; grandson, Oliver Patrick Upright; and sister, Barbara King Cline.
She was employed by Kannapolis City Schools until her retirement and worked at McKnight Kindergarten and Woodrow Wilson School as a teacher assistant. She loved the children she taught over the years and often shared memories of them.
A member of Central Baptist Church for many years, she loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and her sweet dog, Shu Shu. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved her.
Family left to cherish her memory are daughter Susan White (Randy), Ken Upright, Jr. (Phyllis), and Michael Upright (Angie). She is survived by grandchildren Taylor Chapman (Josh), Ragan, Myka, John and Jason Upright, and Taylor and Brett White. She is also survived by great grandchildren whom she adored, Berkley, Wesley & Collins Chapman, Destiny Austin, Jaylen White & Grace Pennell; and brother-in-law, Larry Cline.
While not related by blood she shared a special bond with Tabitha Musselwhite and Ava & Kyla Orbison.
The family will receive friends on Monday, April 29th at Whitley’s Funeral Home starting at 12 noon with service to follow at 1pm.
