Anita Marie (Frye) Irvin

Anita Marie Frye Irvin, 82 years old, of Concord, NC, went to be with her Lord and Savior on February 26, 2023.  Anita was born on March 3, 1940, in Mecklenburg County to the late Jackson and Louise Teeter Frye.

Anita was a wonderful Mom, Mammaw, Great Mammaw, and friend.  Anita was a graduate of Concord High School, she then attended CPCC and UNCC where she received her master’s degree in Education.  She was a teacher’s assistant from 1966 to 1973 and then was a second grade teacher at Odell Elementary  School for 32 years before retiring. Anita was an educator in and outside of school who influenced everyone she met, and never met a stranger.  Besides teaching, Anita was an EMT for Odell Volunteer Fire Department, Brownie Leader, Sunday School Teacher, and competed in Cowboy Action Shooting, where she was ranked in the top 10 in the US in her category.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 63 years, William Jerry Irvin in 2021 and her brother, Tyrone Jackson Frye.  Those left to cherish her memory are her son, William Jason Irvin and his wife Tammy; her daughter, Yvonne Rodriguez and her husband Larry; her sisters, Trena Seaford and her husband Terry and Dale Valin and her husband Roland; her sister-in-law, Lorie Frye; her grandchildren, Justin Rodriguez and his wife Morgan, Landon Rodriguez, Kelci Irvin, and Jeremy Irvin; and her great grandchildren, Colby Rodriguez and Philippa “Pippa” Rodriguez

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, February 28, 2023, from 6-8pm at Whitley’s Funeral Home.  A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, March 1, 2023, 11am at Gilwood Presbyterian Church, with Rev. Chaz Blasdell officiating.  Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
