Christopher Todd Burris (Chris), 58 years old, of Kannapolis passed away Sunday night, April 2, 2023 at Atrium Health following a brief illness. Chris was born September 12, 1964 in Cabarrus County to Elvin and Phyllis Burris. He was predeceased by his Father, Elvin Burris, June 8, 2019. Chris graduated from A. L. Brown High School in 1982 and attended Catawba College on a baseball scholarship after excelling in high school and American Legion baseball. Chris was the consummate salesman who truly cared about his customers throughout his career, most recently serving as an Insurance Agent for FedEx and United Healthcare.
Sometimes there is a special person born who doesn’t quite fit into the conventional mold and Chris was one of those people who marched to the beat of his own drum. Chris was a very special and unique soul, however, that created many unfortunate challenges in his life. We, his family, knew Chris very well and we knew he spent a portion of his life in contention as a result, but he was a very compassionate and caring person. Chris had a big heart and loved many people, some of whom didn’t deserve his special love.
Chris recently said that we shouldn’t worry about the bad times because he had asked for God’s forgiveness and to help him focus on being a better person. He read his Bible and prayed every day, especially for his family and for other people who were lost like he had been.
Chris was an extremely gifted athlete excelling in different sports, especially baseball. He was honored with many awards over the years including most valuable player awards during his playing days in American Legion baseball.
Those he left behind to grieve for him and will always remember his big heart and his quirky and witty sense of humor are his mother Phyllis Burris, his sister Sheri Burris Lane and husband Tim, brother Chuck Burris and wife Jennifer, and brother Andy Burris and wife Darla, as well as many nieces and nephews and extended family.
Per Chris’s wishes, the family will be holding a private memorial service to celebrate his life.
