Evelyn Magdalene (Pless) Raye

Evelyn Magdalene Pless Raye, 98, of Concord, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on December 2, 2022.
Evelyn was born on June 24, 1924 in Cabarrus County. She was a cherished daughter of the late Henry Luther Pless and Ezella Mae Hathcock Pless. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband James Edward Raye; son, James Raye Jr; two sisters, Blanche Ramseur and May Baker; and five brothers: Joe, Henry, John, Paul and Warren Pless.
Evelyn was the matriarch of her family and took joy in looking after her loved ones. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, and never let anyone leave her home hungry. She was a long-time member of Parkwood Baptist, later becoming a member of the Shiloh Truelight Church of Christ. Lovingly referred to as "superwoman", she overcame much illness later in life, always surprising everyone with her strength. Evelyn had the sweetest smile, sense of humor, and enjoyed conversation. She was an amazing mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, neighbor and friend. She touched the lives of so many people and will truly be missed by all who knew her.
Those left to cherish her memory include her son, Michael Luther Raye; grandchildren, Jennifer Litaker (Jess); and Chris Raye (Yolanda); great-grandchildren, Sophie, Ellie, Izzy Litaker, and Tyler, Isaac Raye.
The family would like to thank the "Millhouse" volunteers for Evelyn's wonderful care.
Family will receive visitors from 1:00pm- 2:00pm on Tuesday, December 6, 2022 at Whitey's Funeral Home in Kannapolis. Services will begin at 2:00pm with Mike McGee officiating. Interment will immediately follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Concord.
