Sue Wood Lathom, 89, of Concord, NC passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Thursday, October 17, 2019. Services will be held at Whitley’s Funeral Home Chapel, Sunday, October 20, 2019 at 3:00 p.m. with Rev. Jimmy Britt officiating. Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. with interment to follow at Carolina Memorial Park.
Sue was born August 6, 1930 in Thurmond, WV. She was the daughter of Oscar Wood and Ruebena Thomas Wood.
She had a long career in nursing and retirement in the Villages of Lady Lake, Florida where she became a professional clown named Peppermint Sue. She loved nursing and caring for the sick either medically or by leaving someone with a laugh and smile.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years C.D. “Don” Lathom; her brother, Albert, and her sisters, Elizabeth and Betty.
Those left to cherish her memory include sons, Paul Lathom (Gayle), Chuck Lathom (Nora), Doug Lathom (Tammie); grandchildren, Hailey Abasiekong (Michael), Taylor Lathom (Renee), Andrew Lathom (Mary), Amanda Carter (Josh), Amber Yow (Joel), Cameron Lathom, one great-grandchild Joshua Carter, one sister, Mary Wagoner (Bill), one sister-in-law Barbara Wingo, and many nieces and nephews.
Sue’s sweet spirit touched the hearts of Brookdale Assisted Living Community where she was a resident since 2017.
