Aaron Douglas Smith

Aaron “Douglas” Smith Sr. passed away peacefully at the Tucker Hospice House on August 9, 2023.

He was born in Concord, North Carolina on October 31, 1953, to the late Benjamin Harrison Smith and Myrtle Louise Stancil Smith.

Raised in Kannapolis, NC, Doug was a veteran in the U.S. Army. Most of his career he worked in construction and remodeling. As a “jack of all trades”, he was very talented at building and fixing projects. He enjoyed taking trips to the mountains and beach as well as spending time with his granddaughter. Doug was a loving father, grandfather and brother.

Those left to cherish his memory; two children Aaron Douglas Smith Jr. of China Grove, Mica Smith Boyles (Matthew) of Harrisburg, Stepson Tommy Daniel Welch (Candace) of Landis, two grandchildren, Benjamin Tyler Smith, Adalynn Lacy Boyles, two step grandchildren, Avery and Cooper Welch, sister, Charlee Smith (Wayne) of Huntersville, niece Kristen Sheets, great nephew Harrison Sheets.

Funeral service will be held 12:00 Noon, Monday, August 14, 2023, at Whitley’s Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Willie Rash officiating and Doug Pierce assisting. Burial will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park with Military Honors.

Visitation will be prior to the service from 11:00-12:00 at Whitley’s Funeral Home.

Many thanks for the awesome care given by all of the VA employees which are too numerous to name. Also our many thanks to the Hospice and Palliative Care of Cabarrus Co. Everyone was very compassionate and caring during Doug’s illness.
