Adam “Wayne” Thompson, 78, peacefully passed away Monday morning, June 27, 2022, at Tucker Hospice House, following a brief illness.
Born April 22, 2022, in Iredell County, he was a son of the late Coy Price Thompson and Odell Auton Thompson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Shirley Donahue, Evelyn Reece, and Rachel Graves; his sister-in-law, Myrtle Thompson; and a niece, Robin Wallace.
Wayne had proudly and honorably served his country with the US Marine Corps, where he was a Master Sergeant. A talented and hard-working man, he had retired from Duke Energy after more than 32 years of loyal service. Wayne was of the Baptist faith, enjoyed softball and was an avid Duke Blue Devils fan. He also enjoyed wood working and was an excellent carpenter. Love by all of his family, Mr. Thompson will be greatly missed by them and all who knew him.
Family members include his beloved wife of 55 years, Marion Williams Thompson; his brothers, Coy Thompson (Jean), Lloyd Thompson and James Thompson (Paulette); special niece and caretaker, Deanna Tomlin; numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members.
The family will receive friends from 12:00-2:00 pm Thursday, June 30th at Whitley’s Funeral Home. Funeral services to remember and celebrate the life of Mr. Thompson will begin at 2:00 pm Thursday in the funeral home chapel, conducted by Rev. Carl Fosdick. Burial will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park in China Grove, with military graveside rites.
