Obituary: Mrs . Addie Elizabeth Whitaker passed away Thurday, February 18, 2010 at 12:30 P.M. at Carolinas Medical Center-NorthEast, Concord, NC. She was a long time resident of Best of Care Retirement Home, Kannapolis, NC. She was born August 17,1917 in Wadesboro, NC. She was the daughter of the late Percy L. and Frankie Staton Hough. Mrs. Whitaker attended Wingate Junior College in Monroe, NC with a major in Home Economics. Mrs. Whitaker was employed by Towel City Towel Company for many years. She and her late husband owned and operated Colonial Towel Shoppe in Landis, NC and retired there in 1982. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Fred H. Whitaker, Sr. She is survived by a son, Fred H. Whitaker, Jr. and wife Linda Thornburg Whitaker of Chesapeake, Va., a daughter: Ann Pinson Beck and husband, Richard B. Beck, III of Salisbury, NC. , a grandson, Eric Todd Whitaker and wife Patty of Santa Maria, Ca. and a sister, Edna Hough Helms of Charlotte. Graveside Services will be conducted at 2:00 P.M., Saturday, February 20,at Greenlawn Cemetery, China Grove, NC. The family will receive friends immediately following the graveside service. The family would like to thank the staff at Best of Care Retirement Home for their constant loving care of Mrs. Whitaker for 16 years. Whitley's Funeral Home is serving the family of Mrs. Whitaker.
