Obituary: Kannapolis, NC- Aileen Whitman Sherrill, age 90, died Sunday, June 14, 2009 at Five Oaks Manor, Concord, NC. She was born July 22, 1918 in Rowan County, NC, the daughter of the late John Thomas Whitman and Mamie Iretta Peeler Whitman. She was employed with the former Cannon Mills Company, Plt.#1 in #1 & #5 Spinning Rooms for 38 years until her retirement. She was a charter member of New Hope Lutheran Church, Kannapolis, NC where throughout the years she was a life member of the Women of the Church, had served on various committees, and the senior citizens programs. Her special passions was making senior citizen trips, crocheting, and spoiling her grandchildren. Her family warmly remembers a favorite quote that was embroidered & hung on the wall in her home by the late Betty Feezor, " Live, so that when you are gone, it will have mattered that you were here." She had been a resident of the area since 1946 moving here from China Grove, NC. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, Howard Clegg ( Bud ) Sherrill; three brothers; and three sisters. A memorial service will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 20, 2009 at New Hope Lutheran Church, Kannapolis, NC officiated by Rev. Kim Trabold. Burial will be at Rowan Memorial Park, Salisbury, NC. The family will receive friends after the service. Survivors include her daughter, Barbara S. Bullock of Kannapolis, NC; four grandchildren, Tim, David, & Doug Sloop of Nashville, NC and Sandra Hill of Charlotte, NC; two sisters, Ruby Ritchie and Mildred Plummer, both of Salisbury, NC; eleven great-grandchildren; & two great-great-grandchildren.
