Obituary: Kannapolis, NC- A.L. McDaniel, Jr., age 84, died on Sunday, December 15, 2013 at CMC-Main, Charlotte, NC. He was born on January 30, 1929 in Rowan County, NC, the son of the late A.L. McDaniel, Sr. and Mamie Catherine Hood McDaniel. A.L. attended Woodleaf High School and Central Piedmont Community College. A.L. retired from Hoechst-Celanese Research and Development, Charlotte, NC. He was an active member of Kimball Memorial Lutheran Church, Kannapolis, NC where he had served on the church council, Lutheran Men in Mission, Life member of the LMM, a former Sunday school teacher, usher, and on various committees. For years he was also active as a volunteer with Cooperative Christian Ministries and Habitat For Humanity. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 18, 2013 at Kimball Memorial Lutheran Church officiated by Rev. Dr. Richard Graf. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park, Kannapolis, NC. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Tuesday, December 17, 2013 at Whitley's Funeral Home. The family will be at the residence the remainder of the time. Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Janet Adams McDaniel; his children, Mrs. Terry (Michael) Fisher; Rev. Susan (Terry) Bame; Mrs. Leigh Ann (John) Glass; his seven grandchildren, Michael Fisher, Jr., Adam Fisher, Elizabeth Fisher, Christopher Bame, and Laura Bame, Katherine Glass, and Anna Glass; his six great-grandchildren, Jacob Fisher, Corbin Fisher, Tristen Williams, Shelbie Williams, Lily Fisher, and Charlotte Fisher.
