Obituary: Alfred Ray Biles, 74, of Kannapolis passed away Saturday, Nov. 19, 2011 at the Bob and Carolyn Tucker Hospice House. He was born June 24, 1937 in Rowan County, the son of the late James Frank Biles and Ruth Naomi Plyler Biles. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Viola McManus Biles. Alfred had worked at Cannon Mills for 43 years where he worked in security and was a fireman at the mill. He was a volunteer fireman in Kannapolis for 33 years. He was a N.C. State Certified Fire Instructor. He also had worked as a Cabarrus County Sheriff's Deputy for 11 years and worked at Charlotte Motor Speedway as a fireman and security for 26 years. He owned and operated Fire Extinguishing Sales and Service for a number of years. In the past, he enjoyed playing Santa Clause every Christmas for various schools, nursing homes and hospitals. He also enjoyed taking the fire truck around to many churches, daycares and schools.Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, Nov. 23, 2011 at Whitley's Funeral Home Chapel officiated by Rev. Dennis Morgan. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM Tuesday at Whitley's. At other times, they will be at 1202 Guinn Ave., Kannapolis.He is survived by daughters, Terry Talbert (Danny) of Holden Beach, Linda Dwiggins (Tim) of Kannapolis and Carolyn White (Estus) of Kannapolis, 10 grandchildren and 5 greatgrandchildren.
