Obituary: Alice Catherine Blackwelder Smith, 90, of Kannapolis, NC died Jan. 10, 2014 at her residence. Mrs. Smith was born on June 11, 1923 in Lexington, NC the daughter of the late John Monroe Blackwelder and the late Addie Mae Cruse Blackwelder. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, William Glenn Smith (1982), a son: Michael E. Smith, Sr. (2011) and a grandson, James Michael Winecoff (1991). First and foremost, Mrs. Smith dearly loved her family. She was a charter member of Rodgers Park United Church of Christ; worked for 42 years at the former Cannon Mills where she worked in the packaging dept. retiring in 1984. The service for Mrs. Smith will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2014 at Whitley's Funeral Home Chapel conducted by Rev. Don McManus. Entombment will take place at West Lawn Memorial Park in China Grove, NC. The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 2:00p.m. before the service. At other times will be at the home of the daughter, Glenda Hunter at 607 East 23rd St., Kannapolis. Survivors include her daughter, Glenda Hunter ( Leonard ) of Kannapolis and a son, Bill Smith, Jr. (Norma Jean) of Kannapolis. Also, 13 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren; 16 great-great grandchildren and 18 nieces and nephews. The family wishes to express their appreciation to Hospice of Cabarrus County for the love and care offered not only to their mother but also to them during their mothers time of need.

Service: 2:00 PM, Tuesday January 14, 2014 Whitley's Funeral Home Chapel.

Interment: West Lawn Memorial Park China Grove, North Carolina
