Obituary: Kannapolis, NC- Alice Moss Sloop, age 84, died unexpectedly of natural causes Thursday, November 5, 2009 at CMC-NorthEast, Concord, NC. She was born July 24, 1925 in Patrick County, VA, the daughter of the late William Thomas Moss and Edna Wilson Moss. She was employed with the former Cannon Mills Company, Plt.#1 #3 Weave Room for many years.She was a member of Central Baptist Church, Kannapolis, NC.She is fondly remembered for her love for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.Family members had called her "Seagull" because she followed her sailor husband. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by all but one brother & all of her sisters. The funeral service will be 1:00 P.M. Saturday, November 7, 2009 at Whitley's Funeral Home Main Chapel, Kannapolis, NC officiated by Rev. Curtis Parker.Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park, Kannapolis, NC.The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 12:00 noon Saturday at the funeral home prior to the service. Survivors include her husband of 60 years, R. Jack Sloop; two daughters, Edna Dougherty of Nashville, TN and Deloris Mata of Kannapolis, NC; four grandchildren, Patrick Sturm of Kannapolis, NC, Shawn Church of Locust, NC, Chuck Church of Kannapolis, NC, and Robert Dougherty of Nashville, TN; five great-grandsons; one brother, Ashby Moss of Kannapolis, NC.
