Obituary: Alma Deal, age 65, of 1155 Ebenezer Rd. died Tuesday, January 11, 2011 at her home after a lengthy illness. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM Friday, January 14 at Whitley's Funeral Home Annex Chapel, with Rev. Dr. J. Donald McManus officiating. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery, China Grove. The family will receive friends at Whitley's Annex Chapel on Friday from 2:00 to 3:00 PM prior to the funeral, at other times they will be at 700 Church Ave. Kannapolis, the home of Ann Addison. Alma was born August 29, 1945 in Rowan Co., the daughter of the late Jacob A. and Ruth Fesperman Deal. She was educated in the Rowan Co. School system, graduating from S. Rowan High School in 1963 and Greensboro Women's College in 1967. Alma was an avid reader and enjoyed working on the family farm. She worked as a cashier for several retail stores. She had been an active member of Rodgers Park Reformed Church of Christ. Alma never met anyone she did not like. Though never married, she helped raise many nieces and nephews and neighborhood children as her own. She will be dearly missed. In addition to her parents, Alma was preceded in death by her brother, Huitt A. Deal and her nephews, Jacob A. Deal II and Shannon Lee McClure. She is survived by her niece, Tabitha Ann Addison of Kannapolis, 3 great-nieces, Leslie Davis of Asheboro, Stephanie Barrier of Kannapolis and Candie Weaver of the family home and 5 great-great-nieces and nephews.
