Alma Ruth Parham

Obituary: Alma Ruth Matthews Parham, age 87, of Five Oaks Manor, formerly of Kannapolis, died Tuesday, May 13, 2014 at CMC-NE after a period of declining health. Her funeral will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, May 16 at Whitley's Funeral Chapel with Rev. Marc Sanders officiating. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at Whitley's Funeral Home from 12:00 to 1:00 PM on Friday. At other times they will be at the home of her daughter, Phyllis Tarlton. Ruth was born October 15, 1926 in Cabarrus Co., a daughter of the late James Parks Matthews and Mary Ruth DeMarcus Matthews. She was a lifelong area resident and member of Blessed Assurance Church. In earlier years, Ruth worked at Cannon Mills Plant #1 as an Over Edger in the Wash Cloth Dept. In addition to her parents, Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, William Oliver Parham, 3 brothers and 1 sister. She is survived by her daughter, Phyllis Tarlton (Clayton) of Kannapolis, her grandsons, Jason Tarlton of Durham and Gabriel Tarlton of Kannapolis, her great-grandson Izaieh Tarlton and her sister, Bertha Cvyzewski of GA.
