Obituary: Alma Knight Newton York, age 93, of Rockwell, previously of Lake Norman area, died Tuesday, April 26, 2011 at Liberty Commons Nursing Center in Salisbury after a brief illness. Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 28 from 3 - 5:00 PM at Whitley's Funeral Home, Kannapolis. Alma was born August 14, 1917 in Guess, SC, a daughter of the late Richard J. and Ida Irene Mills Knight. She worked in Mooresville Mills for 35 years as a weaver, retiring to the Lake Norman area. Alma loved to fish, crochet and she loved her animals. She was preceded in death by 3 brothers; R.A., Glen and Franklin Knight and by her 2 sisters; Lillian Smith and Cleo Miller. She is survived by 2 daughters; Myrtle N. Knox of Mooresville and Alma N. Wofford of Florence, SC and 3 grandchildren, Joe Knox, Jennie K. Brown and Jason Wofford and 5 great-grandchildren, Jeremy, Holli, Joseph, Jamie and Jessie and 2 brothers, Barney Knight and Al Knight, both of Rockwell.
