Obituary: Alton Ray "Buddy" Everett, Sr. 73, of Kannapolis, N.C. passed away in his sleep on Sunday, March 20, 2016 at his residence. Known as Buddy to all who knew him for his charismatic personality and down to earth demeanor; he was born March 14, 1943 in Pitt County, N.C. a son of the late Samuel and Lillie Mae Everett. Buddy was a Christian with a strong faith who loved Jesus and spending time with his family. He was raised on a tobacco farm in Rocky Mount, N.C. where he developed a strong work ethic. Buddy moved to the Newport News, Virginia area in the early sixties and resided there until 1979. During his time in Tidewater he drove stock cars at Langley Speedway for several seasons in the 1970's. He relocated to Okeechobee, Florida in 1979 where he was a produce broker and retailer for many years. He founded Joanna's Open Air Markets in 1980. Survivors include his wife, Lori Gibson of the Home, three sons, Ray Everett of China Grove, NC, Allen Everett of Poquoson, Va. And Patrick Everett of Hampton, Va., one daughter, Joanna Kite (Jake) of Okeechobee, Fl., one brother, Sam Everett, Jr. also of Okeechobee, two sisters, Faye Curlee of Cleburne, TX., and Hilda Everett of Houston, TX. Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Friday, March 25, 2016 at Whitley's Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park in Concord, N.C. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 12:30-2:00 P.M. Friday prior to the service. At other times they will be at the residence.
