Obituary: Alvin Davis "Abbie" Sides III, age 65 of Concord, died Wednesday, August 15, 2012 at Bob and Carolyn Tucker Hospice House after a 2 year battle with cancer. His funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday, August 19 at Epworth United Methodist Church with Dr. Glenn Myers officiating. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8:00 PM Saturday, August 18 at Whitley's Funeral Home, Kannapolis. Abbie was born January 11, 1947 in Cabarrus Co., a son of the late Alvin Sides, Jr. and the late Gertrude Freeland Ward. He was a life-long area resident, and graduated from Concord HS in 1965 and then from Evans Business College. Abbie was a member of Epworth UMC and Teamsters Local #71. He retired from RoadWay Express. Abbie was a collector of vinyl music. He owned and operated "Blues Records" and DJ'd a number of years on the Shag Circuit. Abbie is survived by his wife of 44 years, Louise Pruitt Sides of the home and his son, Ab Sides and fiancée, Nicole Yow of Concord and his grandson, Charlie Sides and his granddaughter, Taylor Sides and other loving relatives. He was preceded in death by his brother, Jimmy Sides of Mooresville. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to help with funeral expenses.
