Amanda Marie Bumgarner Foil (Jolly), 90, passed away Wednesday morning, May 27, 2020, at home surrounded by loving family members.
Born April 30, 1930 in Taylorsville, she was the daughter of the late Lonnie J. and Rella Mae Russell Bumgarner. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Robert Paul Foil; her second husband, Clifford Ted Jolly; and a brother, L. Jay Bumgarner.
Marie graduated from J. W. Cannon High School and had worked for Cannon Mills in accounts receivable. She later operated an independent insurance agency before retiring due to declining health.
Through the years, she was active in her church, Kimball Lutheran, where she had served on the church council, taught Sunday school and was pianist and organist. She later joined Charity Baptist, where she served in various women’s ministries, including the Food Pantry Clothing Ministry. The story of her life would be incomplete without sharing her love of music. Marie blessed others as she wrote and performed gospel music for many years with the Joyful Combinations and later with the Happy Tones. She had also served her community with agencies such as Help Line. Mrs. Foil loved all of her family and her little Yorkie, “Rebel”. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Family members include her daughters, Sheri Slough (Stephen) and Anne Ballard (Tommy); her grandchildren, Brian Sheets (Alisha), Jeffrey Sheets (Kristen), Jennifer Balentine (William), Stephanie Plummer (Dwayne) and Courtney Sibley (Shawn); and 9 great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Friday, May 29th from 12:00-1:00 pm at Whitley’s Funeral Home. Services to remember and celebrate Marie’s life will begin at 1:00 PM in the funeral Home chapel, conducted by the Rev. Marty Payton, Pastor, Charity Baptist Church. Burial will follow the services at Carolina Memorial Park.
The family wishes to thank a special, faithful friend, Charles Scales, for the love, care and dedication he showed Mrs. Foil. They are thankful for the visits and for him continuing to play for her, just as they had done before her illness.
For those who may prefer, memorials in Marie’s name may be made to Charity Baptist Church, 2420 Brantley Road, Kannapolis, NC 28083.
