Obituary: Ann attended Joseph Clisby Elementary School and transferred to T. D. Tinsley as a member of the first 7th grade class to graduate from the new school; in 1959 she graduated, with honors, from A. L. Miller Senior High School. As a church music major at Wesleyan College, Ann excelled academically and artistically - she was featured, as a sophomore, in Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges. In her senior year at Wesleyan she was president of Sigma Alpha lota, a national professional music fraternity for women whose membership is based on faculty recommendations and is the acknowledgment of exceptional scholarship and musicianship. Also in her senior year, Ann was selected by her peers to serve on the homecoming court and on the Valentine's Day court. While still a student at Wesleyan, Ann was an interim organist at Highland Hills Baptist Church where her father, Ed Hutchings, was choir director and, with his wife, lnez, was instrumental in founding the church. Ann later was organist for St. Martin's in the Field Episcopal Church in Columbia, South Carolina. After moving to Columbia, she earned her master's degree in church music from the University of South Carolina. Leaving the field of church music, Ann enjoyed a long and successful career in the banking industry before retiring with her husband to Harrisburg, North Carolina. Ann was preceded in death by her parents, Ed and lnez Hutchings of Macon. She is survived by her husband, Ed Surber; her daughter Burgin Bauer (Mark) Riley and children, Hagan and Cole of Blythewood, South, Carolina; her son, Alden Bauer; her sister Harriett (Robert) Hooks of Macon; nieces, Helen (Jim) Shoptaw, of Hazard, KY., Martha Ann {Kevin) Chilvers of Sharpsburg, GA.; nephew, Bill (Deren) Hooks of Thomasville, GA.; nine grandnephews and one grand-niece. Funeral services for Ann will be held at Highland Hills Baptist Church on Friday, July 6, at 2:00 pm, with Rev. James Bruner and Dr. Jake Hall officiating. Following the service, burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, after which visitation with the family will be at the home of Harriett and Bobby Hooks at 143 Ten Knolls Drive in Macon. The family requests that friends remember Ann with contributions to the American Heart Association or to Highland Hills Baptist Church, Macon, Georgia. Hart's Mortuary, Cherry Street, Macon, GA.
Visitation: The visitation will be held after the Service at the home of Harriett and Bobby Hooks at 143 Ten Knolls Dr., Macon, GA.

Service: 2:00 PM, Friday, July 6th at Highland Hills Baptist Ch., Macon, GA.

Interment: Riverside Cemetery, Macon, GA
