Obituary: Kannapolis, NC- Annie P. (Polly) Hamilton Chatham, age 92, died Thursday, April 30, 2009 at the Bob & Carolyn Tucker Hospice House, Kannapolis, NC, after a brief illness. She was born March 7, 1917 in Union County, NC, the daughter of the late Lemuel Carl Hamilton and Lillie Thomas Hamilton. She was employed in retail merchandising and sales (with Dr. and Mrs. M.L. Troutman) for many years, as well as in the office of the former Cannon Mills Company. Her true love, however, was her relationship with her husband, children, and grandchildren. She delighted in doing things for them. She also loved flowers, and gave Roy good instructions on where to plant them! She held her church membership at First Baptist Church, Kannapolis, NC. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by a grandson, Phillip Cline. The funeral service will be 3:00 P.M. Saturday, May 2, 2009 at Whitley's Funeral Home Main Chapel, Kannapolis, NC officiated by Dr. Thomas E. Cabaniss. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park, Kannapolis, NC. The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 3:00 P.M. Saturday at the funeral home prior to the service. Survivors include her husband of 62 years, Roy M. Chatham, a son, David Chatham of Columbia, SC, two daughters, Doris Parker of Wingate, NC and Ann Cline of Gold Hill, NC. She has three grandchildren, Jeff Parker, Cheryle VonEgidy, and Andrew Parker, nine great-grandchildren, and two sisters, Clara Davis of Wingate, NC and Melda Bassett of Gainsville, FL.
