Obituary: Another member of "America's Greatest Generation" completed his earthly tasks Friday Afternoon, September 26, 2014. Arlen Wesley "A.W." Lowery passed away at University Medical Center at the age of 91 years. Born August 30, 1923, in Rutherford County, N.C. he was the son of the late Isaac and Della Mae Lowery. Mr. Lowery proudly served his country in the US Army during World War II from 1943 until 1945. He was assigned to the 3rd Army 15th Infantry Regiment. This division of the army began their campaign in North Africa, fighting on through Sicily, Italy, France, Germany and Austria for 531 consecutive days of combat. Shortly before joining the Army, Arlen met the love of his life, Marlyn Fisher at Pfeiffer College and she promised him that she would await his safe return. Upon his return the two married on June 1, 1946 and enjoyed 58 years together. Today once again they are joined eternally. Mr. Lowery spent most of his career in the wholesale drug industry. He is survived by his two children, Rebecca Jo (Becky) Lowery and son, David A. Lowery and wife Sue Tarantino. Also a brother Dr. Charles D. Lowery of Lowell, NC. In addition to his children and brother, he was also the proud grandfather of two grandsons, their wives and his two great grandchildren. Visitation is from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. on Monday, September 29, 2014 at Whitley's Funeral Home, Kannapolis, NC. The funeral will be held at 2:00 P.M. at Rocky Ridge United Methodist Church 1428 Old Charlotte Road, Concord, N.C. on Tuesday, September 30, 2014. A graveside service will follow at Forest Lawn West, 4601 Freedom Drive, Charlotte, N.C.
