Obituary: Arthur James Drye, age 85, died unexpectedly on Thursday, July 5, 2012 at his home. He was born August 31, 1926 in Cabarrus County, NC, the son of the late Lee Roy Drye and Lillie Viola Burris Drye. Arthur was employed at the former Cannon Mills Company, Plant #1, Warp Room for thirty-five years until his retirement. He was a charter member of Mt. Mitchell Fire Department and a life long resident of Rimer/Mt. Mitchell communities. Arthur held his church membership at Mt. Mitchell United Methodist Church, Kannapolis, NC. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his wife, Ruby F. Drye; a son, Alvin Drye; five brothers; and two sisters. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 P.M. Sunday, July 8, 2012 at Whitley's Funeral Home Main Chapel, Kannapolis, NC officiated by Rev. Ellen Campbell Gardner. Burial will be at a later date. The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 3:00 P.M. Sunday at the funeral home prior to the service. Survivors include his children, James Drye, Connie D. Goodman (Rick), Larry Drye (Valerie), Zelly James (Kevin), Cindy Drye, and Holley Drye (Kyle); a daughter-in-law, Brenda D. Hatley; grandchildren; Jeremy Drye, DeAnna Drye, Chad Drye(Jessicia), Todd Drye (Danielle), Richie Goodman (Heather), William James, Marisa James; a great-grandchild, Austin Copperidge; and two sisters, Hazel D. Bostian (Clyde) and Bernice Powers (Kenneth). Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor's choice. On-line condolences may be left at www.whitleysfuneralhome.com.
