Obituary: Arthur Lee "Buddy" Johnson, 73, of Kannapolis died Saturday, August 19, 2017at his home after a period of declining health. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM on Wednesday, August 23, 2017 at Bethpage United Methodist Church with Rev. Mark Portis and Rev. Duane Melton officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Tuesday at Whitley's Funeral Home and at other times they will be at the residence. Buddy was born December 23, 1943 in Cabarrus Co., the son of the late Jay E. Johnson and Grace Morris Johnson Smith. He was preceded in death by a son, Mark Anderson. He was a lifelong area resident and longtime member of Bethpage United Methodist Church. Buddy was a mechanic for the Charlotte-Mecklenburg School System maintenance garage for 29 years, retiring in 2005. He was active on many committees at his church, attended the Laura Nagy Sunday School Class. Buddy's passion was being in his garage restoring cars and hot rods, watching NASCAR racing, camping, fishing and attending bluegrass festivals with his wife. Buddy is survived by his wife of 44 years, Patricia Allman Johnson, two sons, Jay Johnson and fiancé, Jenny Franklin of Rockwell, Donald Anderson of Raleigh, 7 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, sister, Rita Hendley (Linnie) of Landis, step father, R.J. Smith and his best companion, Lucky.
