Obituary: Barbara Porter Brooks, 77. of Salisbury went to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, March 4, 2017 following a period of declining health. She was born November 7, 1939 in Cabarrus County, NC a daughter of the late Luther Hall Porter and the late Edna Lucille Fink Porter. In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by a brother, Lloyd Porter, a sister, Bertha Helms, a grandson, Timmy Lippard, niece Scarlett Latkowski, and her special canine companion, Bonnie Blue. Barbara was an active member of Mt. Zion Freewill Baptist Church as long as her health permitted. She was employed for many years at Collins & Aikman. She loved going to the beach, fishing, singing and celebrating Christmas. She most of all loved all her family. Family left to cherish her memory are her husband of 31 years, Bob Brooks of the Home, two daughters, Melissa (Gary) Sisk of Cosby, Tenn., Donna (Jim) Rigdon of Augusta, Ga., a son, Chipper (Ann) Simpson of Olin, NC, special nieces; Brenda Morrison of Locust, Susan Boocks and Gypsie Etris both of Venus, Pa. and a brother, Larry Cecil (Margaret) Porter of Alexandria, Va. She is also survived by five grandchildren, six great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren awaiting arrival from heaven. Funeral services will be 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, March 8, 2017 at Whitley's Funeral Home Chapel conducted by Rev. Mike Hubbard. Interment will follow in West Lawn Memorial Park in China Grove. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the funeral service. At other times they will be at the residence.
