Obituary: Barbara Abernathy Hardin left her earthly home Sunday, September 6, 2015 at CHS-NorthEast Medical Center to be with her Lord and Savior following a four week serious illness. Barbara was born March 9, 1933 in Cabarrus County, NC a daughter of the late J.F. and Jennie Faye Abernathy. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her loving husband, Melvin Hardin who died in 2007, and two brothers, Bill and Paul Abernathy. Barbara was educated in the Kannapolis City Schools and was employed in food services of the Kannapolis City Schools until her retirement due to disability. She was a life-long member of North Kannapolis Baptist Church. Barbara's faith never wavered as she was a strong fighter during all her illnesses. She was a true warrior as she faced many battles. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who loved her family dearly. She loved her friends as well. Barbara was very gifted in music and loved to play the piano and keyboard. She loved bringing joy to people with her music. Remaining to cherish her memories are two daughters, Sherry Bame (Jack) of Kannapolis and Melva Crowe (Wayne) of Lenoir. Also surviving are four grandchildren; Melissa Crayton and Amanda Crayton of Kannapolis, Justin Crowe (Beth) of Oxford, Wesley Crowe (Dea) of Collettsville, NC, two step-grandchildren, Andy Bame (Megan) of Salisbury, Amanda Savage (Scott) of Faith, four step-great grandchildren, Luke and Aubrey Bame and Emma and Anna Savage. She also has nieces and nephews to cherish her memory. Funeral services will be 2:30 P.M. Thursday, September 10, 2015 at Whitley's Funeral Home Chapel conducted by Rev. Chris O'Guin, Rev. Doug Hardin and Rev. James Abernathy. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1:00 P.M.-2:30 P.M. prior to the service. Interment will follow in Carolina Memorial Park.
