Obituary: Barbara Ray Harrison, 84, of Kannapolis, passed away peacefully on May 25, 2017 with her three daughters by her side. She was born December 4, 1932 in Wake County, to the late Alice Pugh Ray and Guy Manley Ray, Sr. A devoted mother and homemaker, Barbara was also an active member of First Baptist Church, Kannapolis where she taught Sunday School for many years, and also worked there as a pre-school teacher assistant. All children were precious in her eyes and she became an 'adopted' mother to many. Barbara enjoyed sewing for the home, for her girls, and tailored many a band uniform for her daughters and their friends. She had quite the green thumb and delighted in rooting and nurturing plant cuttings to share with family and loved ones. Her love for God, family, and friends was evident in everything she did. Truly, one of the sweetest, most genuine souls to walk this earth and precious to all who knew her. Barbara was preceded in death by Thomas, her beloved husband of 63 years, who died just six months ago. She was also predeceased by a sister, Willie Florence Vinesett. Barbara is survived by three daughters, Alicia Bartholomew (Anthony), Marcia Harrison (Doug) and Sue Kareiva (Keith); a sister, Betty Jean Ray; a brother, Guy Ray Jr. (Bonnie); and many in-laws, nieces, nephews, special friends and family too numerous to list but not forgotten. Visitation will be held Monday, May 29, 2017, 1:00-2:00 PM, with Service following at 2:00 PM, Whitley's Funeral Home Chapel, Kannapolis with Dr. Tom Cabaniss officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to The Building Fund, First Baptist Church, 101 North Main Street, Kannapolis, NC 28081. The family is thankful to Tucker Hospice House for the extraordinary care provided to Barbara in her final days. Online condolences may be left at www.whitleysfuneralhome.com
