Barbara Overcash Hurlocker, 72, of Kannapolis, passed away Monday morning, March 28, 2022, at Brain Center Health in Concord, following a period of declining health.
Born July 4, 1949, in Rowan County, she was a daughter of the late Harry Brown Overcash and Myrtle Lorene Patterson Overcash. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Deana and Donna Overcash, and a brother, Clyde “Sonny” Overcash.
Barbara had been a supervisor for Terry Products, where she was a loyal employee for 27 years, later becoming a substitute teacher for Kannapolis City Schools. She loved all of her family and enjoyed time spent with them, especially her grandsons. Barbara also enjoyed fishing, sewing, gardening, camping and loved trips to the beach. Having never met a stranger, Mrs. Hurlocker will be greatly missed by her family and all who knew and loved her.
Family members left with cherished memories include her devoted husband of 54 years, Gary Hurlocker; her daughters Kelly Hurlocker and Kimberly Hurlocker (Eric McGirt), sisters, Linda Branch (Tommy) and Susan Adams (Jerry); her brother, Donald Overcash (Cathy); sister-in-law, Joan Overcash; her much loved grandsons, Evan and Grant McGirt; numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and extended family members.
The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 PM Thursday, March 31st at Whitley’s Funeral Home. Funeral services to remember and celebrate Barbara’s life will begin at 2:00 PM Friday, April 1, 2022, in the funeral home chapel, conducted by Rev. Gene Edwards. Burial will follow the service at Carolina Memorial Park.
