Barnard Lee Boatwright

Obituary: Barnard Lee Boatwright Sr., 87, of Kannapolis, passed away Tuesday, October 20, 2015 at his home after a period of declining health. He was born March 10, 1928 in Chesterfield County SC to the late Lewis Leroy Boatwright and Beulah Davis Boatwright. Barnard was a salesman for over 50 years and he enjoyed fishing and watching wrestling. He was a member of Lutheran Chapel in China Grove. He was preceded in death by four brothers; L.C., Davis, Jack, and Bill Boatwright and one sister, Wynona Osborne. Those left to cherish his memory, his wife Hazel Upright Boatwright, four children; Barnard Lee Boatwright Jr. of Hickory, David Fortson and wife Renee, of Kannapolis, Janice Cruse, Amber Cruse, Grandsons' James and Jeff Stewart,granddaughter Danielle Fortson, great grandchild Jodie Stewart-West, three great-great grandchildren; Kennedy Stewart, Sydney Stewart, James West, two sisters; Helen Schenck and Louise Overcash both of Kannapolis. Visitation will be held from 1-2 PM Friday at Whitley's Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held at 2 PM Friday, October 23, 2015 at Whitley's Main Chapel with Rev. William V. Connelly "Pastor Bill" officiating. The burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to Rowan Hospice & Palliative Care, 720 Grove Street, Salisbury, NC 28144.
