Barry Jones Kemp, 75, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, June 29, 2021, at Atrium Health Cabarrus, following a period of declining health.
Born November 17, 1945, in Cabarrus County, he was a son of the late Paul Jones Kemp and Oveda Ross Kemp.
A graduate of Liberty University, Barry was founder and pastor of Liberty Baptist Church in China Grove, since 1987. He had earlier in life, ran the Hot Rod Barn in Kannapolis and had worked with NASCAR. An avid hunter, Barry also enjoyed fishing, being outdoors, driving his 1927 Ford Model T and had a special place in his heart for Scooter, his beloved Dachshund. Although in a much better place today, Barry will be greatly missed by his family, his church, and all who knew and loved him.
Family members left with cherished memories include his devoted wife, Pam Kemp; his children, Mark Kemp and Lisa Cruse (Terry); stepchildren, Kim Dwyer, Kelly Sink (Lynn), K.C. Brooks (Niki) and Kevin Brooks (Jeannie); grandchildren, Andrew Kemp (Joy), Charity Davidson (James), Kristin Kemp, Titus Cruse (Julia), Kaitlyn Monheim (Chad), Sean Dwyer, Kacie Dwyer, Ty Vining, Jeyson Brooks and Kaylee Brooks; his brother, Don Kemp; 10 great-grandchildren and extended family members.
The family will receive friends from 12:00-2:00 pm Saturday, July 3rd at Liberty Baptist Church, 1365 Brookwood Drive, China Grove. Services to remember, to celebrate and to give thanks for Barry’s life will begin at 2:00 pm in the church, conducted by Pastor Terry Cruse. Burial will follow the service at West Lawn Memorial Park in China Grove.
