Beatrice Kelly Hinson

Obituary: Beatrice Kelly Hinson, age 87, passed away on Wednesday, July 6, 2016 at Big Elm Nursing Center, Kannapolis, NC after three years of declining heath. She was born November 17, 1928 in Newport, Rhode Island, the daughter of the late John Atkins Kelly, Sr. and Marie Elizabeth Blacklock Kelly. Beatrice lived a devoted Christian life, teaching children in Sunday school and Vacation Bible School for many years. She was a Christian mother to her three children, cooking three home-cooked meals a day and assisting with their homework. She also attended every PTA meeting, school drama and musical programs, supporting her children in every aspect of their lives. In addition to that she loved cats and birds and helping many neighborhood kids with their homework. Some of them even called her a second mom. For many years she supported her husband with ministry as a devoted pastor's wife. She even found time in her busy life to volunteer for Congressman Bill Hefner where she received volunteer of the year in 1987. Eventually, she found time to work part-time at Medical Modalities in 1990 where she had a variety of tasks contacting patients where she offered them concern and compassion providing them with much encouragement and Inspiration and added them to her prayer list. She finally retired in 2013. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, Rev. George O. Hinson, Sr.; and a brother, John A. Kelly, Jr. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, July 9, 2016 at Whitley's Funeral Home Main Chapel, Kannapolis, NC officiated by Rev. Larry Moore, pastor of Concord Wesleyan Church. Burial will follow at Mission Baptist Church Cemetery, Locust, NC. The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM Saturday prior to the service. Survivors include her children, Jeanette H. Lowder (Danny) of Kannapolis, NC, Elizabeth H. Roscoe, of Kannapolis, NC; and George O. Hinson, Jr. (Betty) of Concord, NC; grandchildren, J.T. Hinson (Susan) and Matthew Hinson (Casey), Elizabeth Marie LaVance, Kelly (Meghan) Lowder, Julie (Todd) Anderson; great-grandchildren, A.J. LaVance, III, Cameron LaVance, Ireland & Zailey Lowder, and Katriel Brooklyn. A special thanks to the entire staff of Big Elm Nursing Center for their special care and love given our mother during these most difficult years of her life.
