Obituary: Mr. Ben Carson Perry, 76, died Sunday, January 29, 2012 at his residence with by his wife and family by his side. He was born January 12, 1936 in Union County, NC a son of the late Marshall Wayne and Carrie Bryant Perry. Mr. Perry was a member of Royal Oaks Baptist Church, the NRA, and was a veteran of the US Air Force serving in Korea. He was a member of the American Legion and his past times included hunting and fishing; he was an inventor, woodworking and dearly loved the beach. Prior to his retirement he had worked at Disney World, was a truck driver and later an instructor in truck driving school.Funeral services will be 1:00 P.M. Thursday, February 2, 2012 at Royal Oaks Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Leon Smith. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes prior to final rites. Interment will follow in Carolina Memorial Park with military graveside rites conducted by the Cabarrus County Honor Guard. The family will receive friends at Whitley's Funeral Home Wednesday, February 1, 2012 from 6:00-8:00 P.MAt other times they will be at the residence.Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Reva Perry of the Home, one son, Mike (Beverly) Perry of Mint Hill, two daughters, Pat (Ryan) Gordon and Debbie McCorkle all of Kannapolis, two step daughters, Kathy Frost of Leesville, SC and Sandy Crites of Orlando, Fla., one brother, Ralph Perry of Augusta, SC, seven grandchildren and one great grandchild.Memorials may be made to Royal Oaks Baptist Church, 904 Texas Street, Kannapolis, NC 28083.
