Obituary: funeral services celebrating her Christian life will be conducted at First Wesleyan Church in Kannapolis at 3:30 P.M. on Sunday, July 27, 2014. The family will be available prior to the service at 2:30 P.M. to receive condolences at the church. Interment will follow the service at Carolina Memorial Park Cemetery. Bernice was born February 15th, 1927 to the late William Lee and Alice Sides. She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Mr. Martin Henry Barrier Sr. in 2010, also three brothers: Herman, Harry and Hoover Sides, three sisters: Mary Lee Roseman, Ruth and Ruby Sides. Bernice was a 78 year resident of Concord and then moved with her late husband Martin to North Myrtle Beach. Bernice resided the last four years at Agape Senior Center in Conway, S.C. Surviving family members left to cherish her memories are three children: one son Martin Henry Barrier Jr. and wife Donna of North Myrtle Beach, S.C., two daughters: Bonnie Heidinger and husband Bill of Creedmoore, N.C., Helen Gant and husband Dale of Wilson, N.C., five grandchildren: Martin Barrier III, Mitchell Barrier, Nathan Gant, Casey Gant and Michael Heidinger. Six great grandchildren: Jackson, Lauren and Daveena Barrier and Tyson, Molly and Hadley Gant. A devoted Christian, Bernice's encouraging, selfless and sweet spirit made a difference in many lives. She faithfully served First Wesleyan Church in many capacities: Sunday school teacher, building committee, hospitality chairman, social chairman, youth group leader and Girl Scout leader. She delighted in cooking delectable meals, cakes and hosting elaborate dinner parties. The Tops #12 Chapter was a special club she enjoyed. Bernice was chapter leader, area captain and was recognized for many state and national awards. Memorials may be made to the First Wesleyan Church Building Fund, 301 Bethpage Rd.
