Obituary: Kannapolis- Bernice Woodell Cannon, 94, passed away Thursday morning, December 20, 2018, at the Glenn A. Kiser Hospice House, following a period of declining health. Born April 10, 1924 in Cabarrus County, she was a daughter of the late Dewey Wiley Woodell and Christine Davis Woodell. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, A.M. "Cotton" Cannon; a sister Glenna Harrison and her brother, D.W. Woodell, Jr. Mrs. Cannon had retired from Kannapolis City Schools, where she was in food service. A lifelong member of Lakewood Baptist Church, she enjoyed and was gifted in sewing and quilting. Bernice loved her family, especially her grandchildren. A loving and devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, she will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. Family members left with cherished memories include her children, Betty Kennerly (Michael), Donnie Cannon, Judy Fite, Rebecca Saunders, Kathy Huffstickler (Michael) and Steve Cannon (Pat); 9 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; nieces, nephews and extended family members. The family will receive friends Sunday, December 23rd from 1:00-2:00 pm at Whitley's Funeral Home. Services to remember and celebrate the life of Mrs. Cannon will begin at 2:00 pm in the funeral home chapel, conducted by Rev. Kyler Smith. Mrs. Cannon will be laid to rest with her husband in Carolina Memorial Park Cemetery. The family would like to thank Bernice's caregiver, Lisa Efird, for the care and love given during her illness.
