Obituary: Bernice Basinger Carter, 78, of Rockwell passed away on August 19, 2016 at the Brian Center in Salisbury. She was born March 7, 1938 in Rowan County, the daughter of the late Lewis C. Basinger and Ruby Troutman Basinger. Bernice retired from Terry Products after 33 years as a seamstress. She was a member of Eastwood Baptist Church in Kannapolis where she use to run the sound system for many years. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star where she had been a Worthy Matron at least 6 times. She enjoyed Nascar racing, crocheting and quilting. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Monday, August 22, 2016 at Eastwood Baptist Church officiated by Rev. Randall Ritchie and Rev. Gene Edwards. Entombment will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 PM Sunday at Whitley's Funeral Home. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Fred Carter, brothers, Norman Basinger of Kannapolis, Larry Basinger and Michael Basinger both of China Grove, sister, Gaynelle Moose of Concord, a special niece, Kim Maltbe and her children that she called her grandchildren, Brandon and Ryan as well as many nieces and nephews.
