Obituary: Bernice Scarborough Crowe, age 94, of Rockwell, formerly of Kannapolis, died Saturday, December 31, 2016 at Novant Health Rowan Med. Center in Salisbury after a period of declining health. A funeral will be held at Whitley's Funeral Home Chapel at 11:00 AM Thursday, January 5, with Rev. John Houghton officiating. Entombment will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park in China Grove. Her family will receive friends at Whitley's Funeral Home from 10:00 to 11:00 AM on Thursday prior to the funeral. Bernice was born December 25, 1922 in GA, a daughter of the late John W. and Bessie Hampton Scarborough. She was a longtime area resident and member of Bethel Baptist Church in Rockwell. Bernice worked many years for Cannon Mills and Terry Products until she retired. Bernice loved to cook and knit. She was very generous and enjoyed doing for others. Bernice enjoyed music and dancing. She was a loving and devoted mother and homemaker to her husband and children and will be deeply missed. In addition to her parents, Bernice was preceded in death by her son, Kenneth Burke, her husband, Dock Homer Crowe, her sister, Alice Key and her brother, L.C. Scarborough. She is survived by 2 daughters, Betty Ann Burke Harris (Bill) of Atlanta and Paulette Burke Russell (Terry) of Charleston, SC and 2 sons, Barry Lynn Crowe (Heather) of Christiansburg, VA and Timothy Lee Crowe of Rockwell and 12 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild and loving nieces and nephews.
