Obituary: Kannapolis, NC- Bernice Sloop Daniels, age 79, died Wednesday, June 16, 2010 at Genesis Healthcare, Salisbury, NC after several months of declining health. She was born December 22, 1930 in Alexander County, NC, the daughter of the late Clyde Brown Sloop and Lexie Deal Sloop. She was a 1949 graduate of Cannon High School, Kannapolis, NC and attended Catawba College. She was employed as a supervisor at the former Cannon Mills Company, Kannapolis, for over 40 years of service until her retirement. Bernice held her church membership at First Presbyterian Church, Kannapolis, NC where she was involved in various activities throughout the years. She was also a charter member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Kannapolis Chapter #349 where she had served as Worthy Matron at three different times of her life. She was also known to have been a volunteer as a precinct judge at her voting district. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, Lowell Thomas Daniels who died February 22, 1988; and two brothers, Paul Sloop and Everette Sloop. The funeral service will be 6:30 P.M. Sunday, June 20, 2010 at Whitley's Funeral Home Main Chapel, Kannapolis, NC officiated by Rev. Cathy George. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 22, 2010 at the National Historic Cemetery, Salisbury, NC. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 6:30 P.M. Sunday at the funeral home prior to the service. Survivors include her four children, Kimberley Daniels Marlin & husband, Lynn of Ellerbe, NC; Tommy Daniels & wife, Paige Jamison of East Haddam, CT, Derald Daniels & wife, Susan of Kannapolis, NC, and Eric Daniels & wife, Dr. Dana Hurley of Clarksville, MD; six grandchildren; and one great-grandson; and one brother, Don Sloop of Linden, MI; and many nieces and nephews.
