Bertie Catherine Thompson, 88, of Mooresville, passed away Monday, May 17, 2021 at Kiser Hospice House after a period of declining health. Born January 12, 1933 in Rowan County, she was the daughter of the late Marshall and Zola Wilkinson Allman.
Bertie spent most of her life as a homemaker and loving wife to her beloved husband Marvin, who preceded her in death in 1997. She also babysat, taking care of her grandchildren, as her specialty. Bertie played piano and sang at several churches over the years. She could play piano by ear flawlessly.
Bertie is survived by three daughters, Beverly Yow of Mooresville, Pat Livengood and husband George of Kannapolis, and Denise Hutchens of China Grove; four grandchildren, Johnny Hildebran and wife Amanda of Sherrills Ford, NC, Lisa Shoemaker and husband Ray of Salisbury, Alison Parker and husband Jeremy of Kannapolis, and Bailey Hutchens of Mooresville; four great grandchildren, Rachel Shoemaker, Hunter Hildebran, Dakota Hildebran, and Jayce Parker.
Aside from her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Margie Weddington and Shirley Allman.
A funeral service to honor Bertie’s life will be held 11:00 AM Friday, May 21, 2021 at Whitley’s Funeral Chapel, Kannapolis. Pastor Jeff Smith will officiate. Interment will follow in West Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 10:00 – 11:00 AM prior to the service Friday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Glenn A. Kiser Hospice House, 1229 Statesville Blvd. Salisbury, NC 28144
