Obituary: Mrs. Bettie Jane Wagner Head, 81, of Kannapolis passed away on Saturday, January 17, 2015 at her residence. Bettie was born August 26, 1933 in Cooleemee, NC the daughter of the late Albert and Nettie Wagner. Bettie was an outstanding Country and Bluegrass musician winning many awards with her Gibson guitar. She was given a special award by the Mooresville Lion's Club for her musical talents. Other musicians receiving the same awards were Arthur Smith, Tommy Fale, Doc Watson and grand ole opry performers. She was the head judge for sixteen years at the Lion's Club's Fiddlers Convention in Mooresville. Bettie was a beloved and devoted wife, mother and grandmother. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a brother, John Wagner. Survivors include her husband of 60 years, James Wesley Head, two sons, Stephen Head (Sarah) of Charlotte and Thomas Head of the home, a granddaughter, Elizabeth Head of Charlotte and a nephew and niece, Richard Wagner and Laura Speller of Georgia. Funeral services will be 1:00 P.M. Tuesday, January 20, 2015 at Whitley's Funeral Home Chapel conducted by Pastor David Maynard. Interment will follow in Rowan Memorial Park, Salisbury. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 12:00 P.M.-1:00 P.M. prior to the service. At other times they will be at the residence.
