Obituary: Betty Deaton Austin, 77, of Harrisburg passed away on Sunday, November 23, 2014 at CMC-NorthEast. She was born March 22, 1937 in Mecklenburg County, the daughter of the late Floyd Richard Deaton and Wilma Jane Cooper Deaton. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Leroy Austin, Sr., her son, James "Jimmy" Leroy Austin, Jr., brothers, Michael, Richard and Cecil Deaton and her sister, Brenda Wilson. Betty was a member of Covenant Church of Harrisburg for many years. She loved the Lord. She also lived for her family, especially attending family celebrations. She enjoyed the outdoors and working in her rose garden. A service to celebrate Betty's life will be held at 2:30 PM Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2014 at Whitley's Funeral Home Chapel officiated by Rev. Charles Efird and Rev. Jeff Arrowood. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park, Harrisburg, NC. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:30 PM Wednesday at Whitley's. She is survived by her three children, Karen Arrowood (Ron) of Harrisburg, David Austin (Tammy) of Concord and Mark Austin (LuAnn) of Harrisburg, daughter-in-law, Threasa Johnson Austin of Harrisburg, grandchildren, Ronnie Arrowood (Heather), Jeff Arrowood (Hannah), Stephen Austin, John Austin, David Austin (Ashleigh), Jennifer Austin (Danny), Hanna Rose Gardner (Grant) and Hunter Austin, great grandchildren, Ashton and Nolan Arrowood, Sierra Fitzsimmons, Brianna Arrowood, Taylor Austin, Macie, Olivia and Sophie Jenkins, Ava Mae and Grayson Gardner and Elijah James Austin, sisters, Jo Ann Evans, Debbie Deaton, brothers, Phil, Tommy, Kenneth, Doug, Donald and Steve Deaton.
