Obituary: Betty Sue Kerley Beaver Surrounded by her family, Betty Sue Kerley Beaver went to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, December 26, 2017. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, December 29, 2017 at First Wesleyan Church with Rev. Scott Wheeler officiating. Burial will follow at the Salisbury National Cemetery at a later date. Her family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Thursday, December 28 at Whitley's Funeral Home. She was born in Alexander County on June 11, 1931 to the late Harland Roscoe Kerley and Grace Laws Kerley. As a child, her family moved to Rowan County where she attended school. Betty was an amazing wife, mother, grandmother and friend who loved serving her Lord. She was an example of Christian love and a source of strength to all who knew her. She was an active member of First Wesleyan Church in Kannapolis, NC, where she attended the Pathfinders Sunday School Class. She enjoyed spending time with her church family and will always be remembered for her homemade rolls and Red Velvet Cake. Betty and Grover had a deep passion and deep love for Camp Wesley, which is an interdenominational camp, located between Kannapolis and Mooresville, NC. She and Grover were instrumental in the operations and leadership of the Camp over the past 60 years. She helped cook, clean, served on the board, and organized events such as the annual yard sale, which was affectionately named the "The Betty Beaver Yard Sale" several years ago. Left to cherish her memories are her husband of 67 years and the love of her life, Grover Beaver of Kannapolis, sons, David Beaver (Darothy) of Kannapolis, George Beaver (Debbie) of Salisbury, daughters, Peggy Honsinger (Rick) of Charlotte and Nancy Foster (Glenn) of Kannapolis. Betty had eight grandchildren: Tammy Bare, Dava Biggerstaff, Amy Barbee, Elizabeth Gillis, Emily Yarbrough, Angela Spinelli, Heather Sammet, and Chris Brenner. She also had 12 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by five brothers, Harland Roscoe Kerley, Jr, Blanco Kerley, James Kerley, Arville Kerley and LD Kerley. She was also preceded by five sisters, Idell Kerley Lewis, Ona Kerley Deal, Edna Kerley Ballard, Naomi Kerley Payne and Mattie Kerley Dancy. The family would like to thank Dr. Miller and the staff at the Batte Cancer Center at CMC, Concord, NC and Hospice of Cabarrus County for the excellent care given to Betty during her illness. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Camp Wesley, 3090 Deal Road, Mooresville, NC 28115!
