Betty Lou (Saunders) Chapman, 87, passed away Friday, January 19, 2024, at Atrium Health Cabarrus. She was born to the late George and Mabel (Swanee) Saunders on September 28, 1936, in Rowan County.
Betty married Melvin Chapman at North Kannapolis Baptist Church in 1956. They were married almost 68 years. Betty and Melvin loved to go dancing together for many years. They raised three boys, Johnny, Anthony and Michael. Betty loved her family very much. She will be missed.
Betty worked at Cannon Mill sewing for 43 years. Betty enjoyed gardening, sewing, knitting and cake decorating. She was an avid reader. Betty loved her dancing years with the Pink Ladies Dance troupe. They had many events and traveled to various senior facilities over the years.
Those to cherish her memory include her husband of 67 years, Melvin; three sons, Johnny “Butch” Chapman, Anthony “Tony” Chapman and Michael (Helene) Chapman; six grandchildren, Tyler (Robert) Black, Caleb (Kassie) Chapman, Hunter (Kendall) Chapman, Austin Chapman, Micayla Chapman and Joshua Sherrill and three great grandchildren, Eleanor “Ellie” Black, Rowen Black and Tangela Chapman, other relatives and friends.
A Graveside service for Betty will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, January 26, 2024, at Carolina Memorial Park in Kannapolis, NC, with The Rev. Dr. Robert Black officiating.
