Betty Harris Compton

Obituary: Concord, NC- Betty Harris Compton, age 78, died Wednesday, April 14, 2010 at Carolina Specialty Hospital-Mercy, Charlotte, NC after a short serious illness of 8 weeks. She was born June 5, 1931 in Cabarrus County, NC, the daughter of the late Ralph Harris and Odessa Blackmon Harris. She was a 1948 graduate of J.W. Cannon High School. In earlier years she was employed with the former Cannon Mills Company, Plt.#1 Wash Cloth Dept. Later, she worked at the Douglas Aircraft, Charlotte, NC for 9 ½ years. Eventually, working 30 years at the former Terry Products, Inc. until her retirement. Betty especially loved going to the beach with her husband during many summers throughout the years. She had held her church membership at Brookdale Baptist Church, Kannapolis, NC. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by a granddaughter, Emily Kay Compton, who died April 6, 2007. The funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 17, 2010 at Whitley's Funeral Home Main Chapel, Kannapolis, NC officiated by Rev. Buddy Compton and Rev. Bob Harvey. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park, Kannapolis, NC. The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home prior to the service. Survivors include her husband of 59 years, Joe F. Compton, Sr.; two sons, Joe F. Compton, Jr. & wife, Martha of Kannapolis, NC and William Scott Compton of Mt.
