Obituary: Betty Jo Crooms, 83, of Kannapolis, loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend, went to be with her lord and savior on Friday, July 13, 2012 at Bob and Carolyn Tucker Hospice House following a period of declining health. Mrs. Crooms was born on April 24, 1929 in Georgia, a daughter of the late Luther and Alma Adams Chastain. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her first husband, Joe Brigman, a step-daughter; Glenda Faye Crooms, and two sisters; Helen Daugherty and Annette Manassa. Funeral services for Mrs. Crooms will be held at 2:00 PM, Tuesday July 17, 2012 at Liberty Baptist Church with Rev. Eddie Graham and Rev. Ralph Robinette officiating. Interment will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park in China Grove. The family will receive friends on Monday, July 16, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Whitley's Funeral Home and a half hour prior to services at the church on Tuesday. Betty Jo was formerly employed as a secretary in the ICU unit at Blake Memorial hospital in Bradenton, Fla. She was a faithful member of Liberty Baptist Church and will be sadly missed by family and friends. Betty Jo is survived by her husband, Arthur M. Crooms of the home, a daughter; Diane Collins of Concord, step-son; Derrick Crooms of Lakeland, FL., a step-daughter; Linda Crooms of Houston, TX., a sister; Irene Manassa (Phil) of Jacksonville, FL., two grandsons; Troy Reynolds (Nicole) of Concord, and Michael Reynolds of Kannapolis, three great grandchildren, and four step-grandchildren.
