Obituary: Betty McLain Daves, 90, widow of Roland W. Daves, passed away Monday, August 19th, 2013 at Tuomey Regional Medical Center in Sumter, SC. Born May 25, 1923 in Alexander County, NC, she was the daughter of the late W.F. McLain and Chaddie Green McLain. She was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ in Kannapolis, NC where she served as a Sunday school teacher for over twenty seven years. A devoted wife to her beloved Roland for fifty-two years, she cherished her church, her family, friends, the members of the "Young at Hearts" from St. John's, and her extended church home, Alice Drive Baptist Church of Sumter. Loved ones left to cherish her memories include her son, Douglas Christy and daughter-in-law, Ann Christy of Sumter, a grandson, Michael Christy (Michelle) of Manning, SC; granddaughter Tina Kirby (David) of Sumter; sisters-in-law, Elsie Tilley of Kannapolis and Claudia Daves of Concord, nine great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren; ten nieces and nephews, a special niece Kay Bebber of Hiddenite, NC, and a special friend, Carolyn Matlock of Kannapolis. She was preceded in death by three sisters, Frances Williams, Juanita Linney and Eloise Shore, and two brothers, Lex McLain and Pleas McLain. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, August 24, 2013 at St. John's United Church of Christ, 901 N. Main Street, Kannapolis, NC 28081 officiated by Dr. H. Warren Casiday. Interment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 PM prior at church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. John's United Church of Christ.
Visitation: 1:00-2:00 PM, Saturday August 24, 2013 St. Johns United Church of Christ.

Service: 2:00 PM, Saturday August 24, 2013 St. Johns United Church of Christ

Interment: Carolina Memorial Park.
