Obituary: Betty Spears Gohn , 84, of Kannapolis died Thursday, Dec. 27, 2018 at Tucker Hospice House. A celebration of life service will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, Jan. 4, 2019 at Parkwood Baptist Church with Revs. Michael Waters, Darrell Coble and Andy Jung officiating. Internment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. Her family will receive friends at the church from 12:30 to 2:00 PM on Friday prior to the funeral. Betty was born July 31, 1934 in Cabarrus Co., the daughter of the late Olin and Faye Moody Measmer. She was a lifelong area resident and an active member and organist at Parkwood Baptist Church. Betty worked as a dept. manager for Sears at Carolina Mall until she retired, after which she enjoyed serving as a volunteer at Northeast Medical Center. Earlier in life Betty loved camping at the beach with family, cross stitching, sewing and baking cakes. After retirement she enjoyed traveling and took several Christian Tours. Later in life she enjoyed reading, working jigsaw puzzles and going to lunch with friends. Of all the things she loved, spending time with friends and family was by far her favorite along with pulling for the Atlanta Braves! In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Craig Spears and her second husband Vern Gohn and her two brothers; Jim and Ronald Measmer. She is survived by her son, Mike Spears (Janice) of Apex, her grandchildren Katie Warner (Luke)of Reston VA and Alan Spears of Charleston, her great-grandson, Everett Warner, her brother-in-law, Jay Spears (Ruby) and her sister-in-law, Sylvia Spears Newsome (Don), as well as many nieces and nephews. Betty is also survived by a dear and loving second family of stepchildren, step grandchildren and step great grandchildren.
