Betty Jean Gurley

Betty Jean Cashion Gurley, 94, of Kannapolis, went to her heavenly home on Saturday, March 29, 2025, from Five Oaks Manor after a period of declining health.

Her funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, April 5, at Whitley’s Funeral Home with Rev. Randall Ritchie officiating. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. Her family will receive friends at Whitley’s Funeral Home from 1:00 to 2:00 PM prior to the funeral.

Betty was born January 20, 1931, in Mecklenburg Co., a daughter of the late Zeb Vance Cashion, Sr. and Lillian Holbrooks Cashion. In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Gurley, who passed in April of 2014, her brother, Zeb Cashion, Jr., her sister, Mary C. Hill and her son in law, Floyd Eagle.

Betty was a lifelong area resident and longtime active member of Eastwood Baptist Church of Kannapolis. In early years, Betty went to work for Cannon Mills and was employed there for many years, retiring as a dinky driver in the Bleachery department. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother to her family and will be dearly missed.

Those remaining to cherish her memory include her daughters; Debra G. Eagle of Concord and Kennitha G. Plowman (Kevin) of Mt. Pleasant and her grandchildren, Shane Plowman (Krista), Trisha W. Fredricksen, John Morris (Amanda), Kenton Plowman (April), Ashley S. Wright (Chris) and her great-grandchildren include , Kyler, Karah, Aly, Kaley and Kegan Plowman, Noah Fredricksen, Taylor, Peyton and Jace Morris and Amy and Lucas Wright. Also surviving are many loving nieces and nephews.
