Obituary: Betty G. Lewis Herbert, age 80, of Kannapolis went to be with her Lord on Friday, June 13, 2014, at CMC-NE. Her death was unexpected following a period of declining health. Her funeral service will be held at Whitley's Chapel at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, June 17 with Rev. Tim McQueen officiating. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at Whitley's Funeral Home from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Monday, June 16. Betty was born October 31, 1933 in Iredell Co., a daughter of the late W. H. and Ada Stanley Lewis. Betty was a lifelong area resident and Member of Memorial Baptist Church. She worked many years for Cannon Mills in Plant #1 Towel Packing, until she retired in 1998. Betty was active in her Sunday School Class of Ruth, the Senior Saints and the Velveteen Women. She was a wonderful cook and made THE BEST biscuits. Betty was a master quilter and enjoyed all kinds of crafting. In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her Husband, Morris G. Herbert, Sr. and her brothers, J. B. Lewis and Harrison Lewis, and her sister, Opal Stirewalt. Those left to cherish her memory include her daughters, Gwendolyn Rowell, Anita Benish (John) and Marian Cook (Rusty), her son, Morris Herbert, Jr. (Amy), all of Kannapolis. She was blessed with nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; Delaina Currie (Phil), Sandy Petersen, Brad Herbert (Danielle), Brett Cook, Cody Prater, Jasmine Herbert, Paxton Herbert, John-David and Josiah McMurphy, Macy Currie and Coltan Currie and Joshua Petersen. She is also survived by two sisters, Ruby Hall (Henry) of Monroe and Mary Critz of Elizabeth City. Online condolences may be left at www.whitleysfuneralhome.com
