Obituary: Betty McLain Hurst, 81, formerly of Kannapolis died Saturday, June 11, 2011 at Horizon Bay Assisted Living after a period of declining health.A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, June 14 at Charity Baptist Church in Kannapolis with Rev. Marty Payton officiating. The family will receive friends at Whitley's Funeral Home on Monday, June 13 from 6:00 - 8:00 PM.Betty was born September 2, 1929, in Cabarrus Co., a daughter of the late Ivey McLain and Gertie Lentz McLain Parker. A life-long area resident, she was a charter member of Charity Baptist Church, where she enjoyed singing and music and sang in the choir. Betty also enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren.Mrs. Hurst was preceded in death by her husband, Calvin Hurst, in 2007, her son, David and also 3 brothers.She is survived by 2 sons; Thomas Hurst, Sr. and wife, Teresa of Kannapolis, Vernon Hurst and wife, Billie of Locust Grove, VA and a daughter, Vickey Jorgensen and husband, Ronald of Concord.
